I always want the window seat.
From cruising altitudes, everything's a little bit different. Sunrises over Arkansas can look like a Rothko painting. Farms look like video games. You can see that the Colorado River really did cut the Grand Canyon into the earth. I love how take-offs and landings give you the extra few hundred feet that let you understand how man-made cities fit into their physical environments.
The window seat lets you photograph the Sahara without ever having set foot in it. I wouldn't have learned the the Lago di Montedoglio was created by blocking the Tiber River without the window seat.
The photos in this gallery actually feel like travel to me. I hope they make you want to go somewhere.
